Trying to Understand the Competition (Let me know what you think )
Data · 18 Oct 2024, 09:12 · 5

So according to the organisers of the competition, there is a train set which is the pca_2024_training file containing polylines. Then there is the test set which is the shp_test_AOIs containing polygon boundaries.

So I discovered that the pca_2024_training polylines are within each shp_test_AOI boundary. So does this means that we are to download satellite imageries using the shp_test_AOI boundaries, then train on these imageries using pca_2024_training polylines as our labels and submit the predictions made by our model.

In essence, what I am trying to say is that, I think there is really no test set for this competition because the labels for the AOIs has already been provided (which is the pca_2024_training polylines). So we just need to make sure that our predictions are exactly aligning with the polylines. Is this approach correct?

A test dataset was spared with some runways to detect not included in the training.

Thank you for your quick response @Lolletti.

Just to clarify, are you saying that there are some runways within the AOIs that we need to predict, but these runways were not included in the pca_2024_training dataset?

All right @Lolletti, thank you !!!

I have few questions;

"In one of your responses regarding the runways, you mentioned, and I quote, 'for the challenge we only provided those that were active in the reference year.'

Question 1: Does this mean that the reference year indicates the year the runway was active?

Question 2: After the reference year, does the runway stop being considered active?

For example, if a runway with ID 145 was active in 2022, is it still considered active in 2023, or is its status limited to the reference year?"

This is important because, as we are considering the temporal component of identifying only active runways, I need to understand whether a runway is still considered active after the reference year or not.

Thank you!

It is active in the reference year
