Hi everyone! Thanks for the question about satellite data sources - and for the impressive solutions we’re seeing on the leaderboard 👏

We want to clear up a bit of confusion around what data is allowed for this challenge.

Our intention for this challenge is that participants use Sentinel-2 satellite data only. This is the data source the challenge is designed around, and it’s what the sample notebooks and baseline approaches focus on.

We realise that the wording in the Info tab could be interpreted more broadly, since it stated:

• “The solution must use publicly-available, open-source packages only.”
• “You may use only the datasets provided for this challenge.”

Because Sentinel-2 data is accessed via the notebooks provided (rather than being directly hosted as files in the challenge), this may have made it unclear whether other publicly available satellite datasets were allowed.

👉 In Summary: Only Sentinel-2 satellite data should be used for this challenge. Using other satellite sources (even if publicly available) is not permitted.

We’ll update the challenge description to reflect this more clearly.
