General Information

Q: What is IBM SkillsBuild and what is it’s goal?

A: IBM SkillsBuild is a free platform offering job-relevant courses, credentials, and practical learning experiences. IBM is committed to upskilling 30 million people globally by 2030 via IBM SkillsBuild.

Q: What is a Guided Learning Experience (GLE)?

A: A Guided Learning Experience (GLE) is a cohort-based training course designed to encourage learners through self-paced SkillsBuild content, while providing live virtual and asynchronous help, further information, demos, and guidance on careers and digital credentials.

Q: What is the level of the course and who is it targeted at?

A: Our Guided Learning Experiences (GLEs) are designed for adult learners and college/university students, with a focus on strategic technical domains: AI, Data, Cybersecurity, and Employability. Unless otherwise indicated, the level is introductory and aims to prepare learners for intermediate level learning.

Q: What can I expect after enrolling in the GLE (Global Learning Experience)?

A: After enrolling, you’ll receive a Welcome email within 48 hours with tips to start your learning, resources for assistance, and an invitation to an orientation session. You’ll also get reminders for technical sessions, and progress updates. The program includes structured modules, a final project with guidance, and a Digital Credential upon completion. Additionally, you’ll have opportunities to connect with instructors and peers, join a closing ceremony, and explore further mentoring or community offers to continue your growth.

Course Formats and Content

Q: What is the content overview of the GLEs?

A: We offer three GLE formats:

• 10-week GLE: Working up to intermediate level content and enabling learners to earn, and stack digital credentials for real job readiness

• 4-week GLE: Ensuring learners make the most of our foundation-level content and are confident using the technology

• 1-hour webinar GLE: An engaging introduction

Study Time and Live Sessions

Q: How much study time is expected per week and for the whole course?

A:

• For Fundamentals (4-week cohort): approximately 4 hours per week, totaling 16.5 hours

• For Certificate (10-week cohort): approximately 4-6 hours per week, totaling 40-65 hours (depending on the domain)

Q: Is it necessary to join live sessions?

A: While live sessions are an integral part of the GLE format, they are not mandatory. However, attending live sessions is highly recommended to get the most out of the course and interact with industry experts. Recordings are also shared after each live session.

Project and Evaluation

Q: When is the project introduced and how much time do learners have to complete it?

A: The project is introduced during a dedicated session in the 3rd week of a 4-week program or the 9th week of a 10-week program. Learners have two weeks to complete their projects after the introduction.

Additionally, multiple Project AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions are held to offer ongoing support and answer any questions from the learners.

Q: What are the project types, and what are the submission guidelines?

A: We offer two types of projects:

• Activity-based projects: Completed directly on the platform, no submission required.

• Submission-based projects: Must be submitted in PDF format via the email link provided, with submission guidelines shared in the project section of the learning plan.

Q: What happens after learners submit their projects?

A: Only submission-based projects are evaluated by our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) using predefined rubrics that assess clarity, completeness, creativity, and application of concepts. Learners receive personalized feedback via email, based on the evaluation rubric, which highlights strengths, suggests areas for improvement, and guides further development. Note that completing the project is mandatory for all learners.
