Hi everyone,
I’ve been spending some time working on video translation workflows, especially around multilingual subtitles, and wanted to share a few practical observations.
At first I thought this would mostly be a translation problem, but a lot of the real difficulty seems to come from subtitle structure rather than translation quality alone.
A few things that keep coming up:
- translated subtitle lines often become much longer than the source
- line breaks that look fine in one language can become awkward in another
- subtitle timing and reading speed matter as much as wording
- short videos and long videos often need different handling
This made me think more about subtitle formatting, alignment, and delivery as part of the translation workflow, not just post-processing.
I’m exploring some of these issues in a small project here:
Curious if others here have worked on subtitle translation, caption alignment, or multilingual video pipelines, and what issues mattered most in your experience.
