About Paystack

Paystack is a technology company solving payments problems for ambitious businesses, with a mission to
empower African ambition. Over 200,000 businesses across Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana and Kenya run
on its modern payments stack, from MTN and Burger King to FairMoney and PiggyVest. The data function
sits at the centre of that scale.

The Mandate

Data engineering is about building and extending the platforms that manage data at scale: ingestion, processing, storage and egress, plus the infrastructure those platforms run on. This is a remote first role for a strong software engineer who is comfortable owning pipelines end to end, works well independently and across teams, and is drawn to picking up new tools quickly across a deliberately broad stack.

What you'll own
  • Data pipelines: Design, build and maintain robust ETL and ELT pipelines feeding a data lake, central warehouse, operational stores and analytical marts.
  • Streaming: Stand up and run real time streaming with Kafka, Debezium and Kafka Connect
  • Ochestration: Build, schedule and maintain workflows in Apache Airflow for timely, accurate delivery.
  • Databases: Work across MySQL, PostgreSQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and analytical systems like Redshift, BigQuery and SingleStore
  • Infrastructure as code: Provision and manage infra with  Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm
  • CI/CD and quality: Maintain deployment pipelines, unit and integration tests, and production monitoring on an on call rotation.

Who we are looking for

  • Three or more years in data engineering, with a focus on building and managing pipelines
  • Two or more years in software or application development (can overlap with the above)
  • Expert Phyton; strong, complex SQL across multiple dialect
  • Hands on with Kafka, Debezium and Kafka Connect
  • Orchestration with Airflow (preferred), or Dagster, Databricks or Airbyte
  • Infrastructure tooling: Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm
  • Bachelor’s in computer science, Engineering or equivalent practical depth

Signals Edge

  • JavaScript or Scala alongside Python
  • BigQuery and SingleStore
  • AWS and cloud native patterns
  • BI exposure: Tableau, Looker, DOMO
  • Basic machine learning and analytical modelling
