Fixa is building from a stable HR platform toward banking and payment rails and, ultimately, a fintech institution. The role is Kigali based and relocation is non negotiable. The Phase 3 technical assessment asks candidates to present a draft data plan, so this is a search calibrated for operators who think in architecture, not slideware.

The mandate
Build Fixa's engineering function from founding team scale to Series A, and ideally Series B, at 100,000 plus users. Personally hands on through the first twelve months, in the weeds alongside the team, with the judgment to know when to shift to a leadership heavy posture. Anchor the architectural decisions that compound into scalable infrastructure and multi country rollout, starting with a stable HR platform, expanding through banking and payment rails, and laying the foundation for Fixa to become a fintech institution.
What you will own
- Reliability: Drive customer reported defects toward zero, with code review enforced, test coverage thresholds in place and SLOs actively enforced.
- Multi tenant architecture: Own the migration path from per tenant MySQL toward row level or hybrid multi tenancy, and architect the country layer for cross border expansion.
- API platform: Ship internal APIs at production quality, including a credit scoring API as a product, and integrate payment rails, KYC, banking and identity behind a clean abstraction layer.
- Data: Stand up clean, trustworthy data across production and analytics, and an executable data plan covering ingestion, storage, modelling, quality and partner exchange.
- Team: Personally own sourcing, interviewing and building a lean, AI empowered founding engineering team, with productivity and code health measured from day one.
Who we are looking for
- Seven or more years in software engineering, predominantly Node.js or TypeScript on the backend
- Shipped production systems on AWS, serverless (Lambda, API Gateway) strongly preferred MySQL or comparable relational databases at multi tenant scale; React frontend depth Architectural understanding of Flutter or a comparable mobile framework (hands on is a plus)
- Five or more years in startup or scaleup environments, not exclusively big tech
- Three or more years in upper engineering management (Lead, EM, Head, VP or CTO) Credible, consistent job history with multiple three year plus tenures
Signals and edge
- A hands on operator who still codes today and will be in the codebase at month eleven
- Proven team builder in early stage, resource constrained contexts
- Fintech transaction systems at scale (hundreds of thousands of transactions)
- Multi tenancy and AWS serverless opinions; production data platform ownership
- AI native engineering posture and genuine product instinct
